Moving out

What you need to do before and when moving out
Moving out
Below are the frequently asked questions about the things you need to do before and when moving out of your storage unit

You need to give notice at least 15 days prior to the end of the current calendar month.

Notice must be given in writing – either by email, post or at your Shurgard location. It must contain your name, unit number and the cancellation date.

So don’t forget to contact us if you no longer need your unit.

Please make sure your unit is empty and swept clean. You also need to make sure that you have removed the lock.

If this is not the case, Shurgard retains the right to extend your rental contract.

Once you emptied your unit, we ask you to remove and retain the lock. It’s yours, so you can re-use it whenever you need to rent a unit at Shurgard in the future.

The storage unit must be emptied and clean when you deliver it back to us. If you no longer want some of the goods you’ve stored, please make sure you dispose of them.

Shurgard reserves the right to extend your contract if your unit is not emptied.

If you haven’t moved out on your cancellation date, your rental contract will be extended. This means the Terms & Conditions as well as the notice period (15 days prior to the end of the current calendar month) are still applicable.

If your plans have changed and you want to continue renting your unit after all, that’s no problem. Just let us know.

Alternatively, if you need less storage space you can also move to a smaller unit. We don’t charge a transfer fee. Your on-site manager can advise you on what unit size would suit you better and help you reserve your new unit.
