Looking for your next DIY project?

With spring settling in, outdoor spaces slowly become part of your home again. The garden, terrace or balcony starts to feel inviting after the long winter months. It often only takes a few small changes to bring it back to life.

One simple idea is pallet furniture. Wooden pallets are affordable, easy to find and surprisingly versatile. With a little time and creativity, they can turn into practical pieces that suit your space perfectly!

Why pallets work so well

Pallets are sturdy and easy to work with, which makes them ideal for simple DIY projects. Even if you are not particularly handy, the basic structure already does most of the work.

Another advantage is flexibility. You can keep the wood natural for a relaxed, rustic look or paint it to match the style of your outdoor space. Add a few cushions and the result can feel both comfortable and stylish.

Start with a simple pallet sofa

A pallet sofa is often the easiest place to begin. Two pallets stacked on top of each other create a solid base, while a third pallet placed upright forms a backrest.

Once the wood is sanded and the pallets are secured together, your structure is ready. With a few outdoor cushions, the space quickly turns into a relaxed seating area where you can unwind at the end of the day.

Add a coffee table

Once the seating is in place, a small coffee table completes the setup. A single pallet can work perfectly as a base, and adding small wheels makes it easier to move around.

For a smoother surface, you can add a wooden board or glass top. A protective layer of varnish or outdoor paint will also help the table withstand the changing spring weather.

Make it your own

This is where pallet furniture really becomes fun. You can adapt it completely to your style and the space you have available.

Some people prefer a natural wood finish, while others add colour to brighten up the garden. Cushions, blankets, lanterns or plants can make the area feel cosy and inviting without much effort.

Prepare the wood first

Before starting any project, it is important to prepare the pallets properly. Sanding removes rough edges and splinters, while loose nails should always be removed.

If your furniture will stay outdoors, a protective oil or varnish will help the wood last longer and keep it looking good throughout the season.

Store it when you need the space

When your outdoor furniture is not in use, it can quickly take up valuable space at home. In that case, a storage unit near you can be a practical solution.
