Storing your tv? A guide to keeping your screen safe

Modern TVs are technological marvels, but they’re also delicate. If you need to store your television, it’s wise to take a few careful steps. Here’s what to pay attention to.

1. The right packing materials are crucial

The best option is the original box and its foam inserts. These were custom-designed to protect your TV.

If you no longer have it, you can buy a purpose-built TV box. Always use several layers of large-cell bubble wrap on the screen and soft packing blankets for extra protection.

2. Prepare it properly

Before packing, you’ll want to wipe down the screen with a dry, microfibre cloth. It’s best to avoid using a wet cloth or harsh chemicals.

Disconnect all the cables, label them, and put them in a sealed bag so you won’t lose them

3. Store it upright

This is a really important point: you should always store your TV in a vertical position. Laying a flat-screen TV horizontally puts immense stress on the screen, which can cause it to crack.

When you store it, just make sure it’s standing up and securely propped against something sturdy so it doesn’t tip over.

4. Think about temperature and humidity

Extreme temperature changes and high humidity can damage your TV’s internal parts. For valuable electronics, a climate-controlled storage unit is a must.

These units maintain a stable temperature and humidity, protecting your TV from environmental damage.
