Our Top 5 Storage Hacks

Are you in need of some clever storage hacks to de-clutter your home? We love creative ways to make day-to-day living more streamlined and efficient. Here are our top 5 storage hacks!

The Lazy Susan

A Lazy Susan is simply a plate on a turntable.  It is typically used at the dinner table to to share dishes more easily between diners.  This clever little piece of equipment is also perfect for cupboards and fridges – any tights space where you need to access a variety of objects.

Tidy up your cupboards and fridge by placing the condiments, herbs and spices, tins or packets onto the plate. Everything will be kept in the right place, and you simply swing it round if you need to browse through the items. No more knocking everything over as you scrabble to find the right ingredient!

A rolling trolley

Similar to a Lazy Susan, a rolling trolley keeps items neat and tidy – and can be moved as you need it.

You can use a rolling trolley in the kitchen to store extra utensils.  Pull the trolley to the counter or table, wherever you’ll need it, and tuck it away again when you are done. These are also great for storing hobby items like for sewing or crafting.  Move the trolley into the open space when in-use, and hide away in a bedroom afterwards.

Rolling trolleys are a perfect way to keep things neatly stored, and are flexible to move around as you adapt the use of space.

Decorative Baskets

Wicker baskets, jute bags, straw hampers or felt boxes – there is a storage box to suit your style! A decorative basket is a must for all stylish and organised homes.

Place them in your lounge and bedroom and they become a dedicated spot for storing items.  A storage spot for blankets and throws, or a catch-all box to tidy away toys!wicker Storage baskets.jpg

Drawer organisers

Out of sight- out of mind! So the saying goes, but shoving random bits and pieces into a drawer is a recipe for disaster. Wires tangle and I bet you just won’t find anything again!

Drawer organisation is essential. You can buy flexible drawer dividers which stretch to fit the space perfectly. Once everything has a dedicated home the space will remain tidy, and you’ll always know where to locate the item.

This principle applies to kitchen and bathroom drawers, the fridge shelves and your wardrobe drawers too!

Use All Available Space

Maximise the storage potential in your home and use all all available places!

If you have room under beds, sofas or stairs, this is an excellent use of space. Fill up suitcases to store out of season clothes under the bed, or tuck away spare bedding in plastic boxes under your couch.

Aim high too.  Is there a gap above your wardrobe where you can stash some boxes? Or make the most of blank walls by installing high shelves to stow away some extra pieces. Radiator covers are great too – they look stylish, hide ugly radiators and create an extra ledge for placing items.

For everything else there is self-storage

Unfortunately, no matter how clever you get with your storage hacks you might just run out of room at home.  Self-Storage is the perfect answer at this point- a clean self-contained storage unit which becomes an extension to your house.  Simply fill it up with the items you don’t regularly need at home, leaving it clear and calm.

Self-Storage is really flexible and convenient.  You can still access your stuff 7 days a week, short or long term contracts are available and everything is kept safe and secure.  Interested to find out more?  Find all our available units and prices on Shurgard.co.uk.
