Style Your Home For Autumn

Style Your Home For Autumn

We are beginning to feel the start of a new season.  It is getting darker earlier, the air is feeling cooler and Starbucks has started to sell its pumpkin spiced lattes. It’s official Autumn is here!  Time to transition your home from sunny and bright to warm and cosy.  So prep your outdoor furniture for its time in storage, then head inside to style your home for Autumn!

An Autumn Clean

Start by giving your home a deep clean. Similar to the traditional ‘spring clean’, now is a good time to give your house the intense treatment.  Dust the skirting boards, wipe the top of light fittings and pull out large pieces of furniture to vacuum those hard to reach edges.

Make sure to clean all the neglected corners of the house.  From now on there will be less fresh air circulating so you will want to remove any chance for musty smells to develop.

Throw/Sell/Donate

As you work your way through the house, re-appraise what you have.  Throw away any broken items that are still loitering around. Sell, or take to a charity shop, any pieces that would have value to someone else. Finally take all items that are not currently in use (but you will need) and drop them at your local storage facility  Include items like summer clothing and sports equipment which can be safely stored until next year.

Cosy Lighting

Cold, dark nights demand a cosy atmosphere.  Re-arrange your lighting set-up to create the perfect vibe.

We recommend placing table lamps in strategic locations around your living space, and use warm LEDs to get the perfect soy glow.  Stop relying on the overhead light which is too stark for a cosy feel.

Candles will create a lovely environment too.  Go for a focal point with a large pillar candle, or use smaller tea lights dotted around the room.

Swap the Soft Furnishings

Bring autumnal colour inside your home with strategic soft furnishings.  Earthy tones of mustard yellow, burnt orange and chestnut brown look fabulous alongside jewel tones like purple and teal.

Swap your cushion covers and lamp shades. Add chunky-knit throws to your furniture.  Even update your bedding sets.  These simple swaps will instantly update your home to Autumn style.

Go Bold!

If you are ‘all-in’ for the Autumn make-over, then dedicate a whole wall to this seasonal colour.  Make your feature wall pop with your favourite shade and then tweak all your accessories to match.

Floral Display

Summer style is all about fresh blooms; Autumn is the perfect time for beautiful dried flowers in a seasonal vase. Opt for items like pampas grass, eucalyptus, hydrangeas and delphiniums to get the ideal look.

Create your own wreaths using similar stems to have the best Autumnal front door.

Set your Table

Bring harvest festival flair to your table centre pieces. Use faux or real foliage to line the centre of your table and place fir cones and mini pumpkins along the display. Finish off with candles in vases to set the tone.

Scent the Air

Now it is time to indulge in your favourite autumnal scent.  Ginger, pumpkin, cedar and cinnamon are the mot common choices – but go with what suits you.  Use reed diffusers, wax melts or scented candles to scent the air.
