Transform Your Tiny Patio Into A Relaxing Retreat

Transform Your Tiny Patio Into A Relaxing Retreat

Sun on a bank holiday weekend – especially the long Easter bank holiday – was very welcome! No matter if there is rain forecast for today – there are more bank holiday opportunities just around the corner! Now really is the perfect time to transform your tiny patio into a relaxing retreat.

Regardless of the space, we can help your transform your outdoor area into the ideal spot for a lazy day in the sunshine.

Clear the Clutter

The first step to any renovation project is a blank canvas. Prune the overgrown trees, recycle broken furniture and donate play equipment and toys that the children no longer use. Move any sports equipment which is in use, but taking up space, into a storage unit to free up the potential of your tiny patio.

Sort the seating

Your relaxing retreat will need the perfect seating, so measure up the space available and chose furniture which will fit the available area.

Stackable options, or slim chairs that fit neatly under tables, are your best bet as they take up the least amount of space. Think about dual function pieces too – so storage boxes which can double up as benches and tables which have integral storage are super options. Consider also ‘floating furniture’ like hammocks which can be strung up and taken down whenever needed.

Clever decorative ideas

You can enhance a tiny patio space with some clever decorative ideas.  Choose soft white fairy lights with transparent wiring overhead, which will more easily bend into the ambience.  Add decorative mirrors to walls, fences or hang them up in the trees, to help bounce around light and reflect the exteriors. Mirrors are a space boosting trick inside and out.

Soften your boundaries

Small patios can often feel intimidated by high fences and walls close by. Soften these overbearing structures with greenery.  Use climbers or bamboo screens to soften these rigid structures and create a more calm, green oasis all around.

Alternatively look to use paint – whitewash walls, or pastels, will help a small enclosed space feel brighter and more open.

Add a rug

Outdoor rugs are a growing trend – and they are perfect for a tiny patio.  They will help anchor the space, adding interest and flair without overbearing the space.

You can also replicate the flow of ‘indoor – outdoors’ by mirroring the style and design of your living room and stretch it out to you garden lounge to elongate the space and trick the eye.

Strategic Shade

Always consider your shade options in your small garden too.  Do you have natural shade from a tree that you can use? Or a sun umbrella which can be moved or attached to a wall?

A good statement option is a wooden Pergoda which frames the entire space. This might seem imposing, but cover it with climbing plants, hanging lights and mirrors.  Think about incorporating the seating around the edge – it will work as a complete multipurpose piece.
