What’s on the Box? Hot Shows for 2021

The weather is cold outside and with so many restrictions still in place… well, it is the perfect time of year to get comfy on the sofa, grab your favourite drink and indulge in some New Year TV.

Struggling to find something to watch?  Here is our low-down for hot new shows airing early in 2021.

A Discovery of Witches
Sky One – 8th Jan

Discovery of Witches is a supernatural TV Series based on the hit novel of the same name by Deborah Harkness.  It concerns a reluctant Witch named Diana Bishop who forms an alliance with a Vampire names Matthew Goode; together they must solve the riddles of a bewitched manuscript within a magical word of vampires, witches, daemons (and forbidden love).

Catch up on Season 1 on Amazon or Sky, then indulge in season 2.  It stated last Friday (8th Jan), but get it ASAP On Demand and enjoy!

The Cabins
ITV2 – 4th Jan Onwards

With Winter Love Island off the cards this year, you can still get your reality show fix with ITV2’s new dating show The Cabins. Phew!

The Mallorca Villa has been swapped for a luxury UK log cabin; and although there will be less bikini bods in this series, I expect there will be just as many sparks flying.  We are sure this will a be a new TV addiction to get you through the dark and wintry nights.

The Great
Channel 4 –  3rd Jan onwards

If you missed this last week, catch-up on All4 and join in the viewing delight.  The Great is a comedy drama all about Catherine The Great – the longest reigning female ruler in Russian history.

Staring Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult this show follows teenage Catherine as she marries the Emperor of Russia, Peter. Her hopes of tying the knot with a great love are dashed as she learns that he is a selfish spoiled brat who stands against everything she values.

All she has to do is kill her husband, beat the church, baffle the military, and get the court onside.

Ant Middleton & Rebel Wilson: Straight talking
Sky One – 14th Jan

Former Royal Marines Commando Ant Middleton and Australian actor Rebel Wilson join together for this revealing, stripped-bare interview.  The pair journey across Mexico with just a 4×4, backpack and each other; they talk honestly and openly and experience self-discovery.

Just the ticket to get you reflecting on an unexpected 2020, as you look towards 2021.

The Pursuit of Love
BBC1 – TBC

This collaboration between BBC and Amazon has been hotly anticipated, and although there is no release date set, we understand it is due to be aired early in 2021… so keep your eyes peeled.

The Pursuit of Love is based on the classic Nancy Mitford Novel – following the adventures of two upper class women and best friends: Linda Radlett (Lily James) and Fanny Logan (Emily Beecham).  They are both enraptured by the idea of love, sex and marriage – and determined to find the ideal husband. This star-studded adaptation will be a 3-parter; and we can’t wait!
