Work life balance: 6 tips

Work life balance: 6 tips

We all want to succeed. Career progression is satisfying.
But we must also recognise that we cannot do everything – all of the time.

Stepping aside from work and ensuring you have a good work/life balance increases productivity, reduces stress and results in a more fulfilling personal life.

Need help? Try our 6 tips to achieve a better work/life balance!

1. MUST-DO EXERCISE

A healthy body supports a fresh mind. Don’t forgo a Gym session for more work.

Exercise is beneficial for your health and is a great stress-reliever. Stick to your exercise plans and you will often come back to work stronger.

2. SWITCH OFF WHEN NOT WORKING

Nowadays we are never really off-work – emails are at a touch of a button. We need to set limits and communicate these to colleagues/clients.

Don’t check emails on your day off and have an evening deadline. Live in the moment. Give yourself the time to fully engage with family and friends.

3. DON’T FEEL GUILTY

Sometimes you will need to miss a work event. Other times you will need to miss your kid’s football match. Don’t feel guilty about either.

Achieving work/life balance means either side will take importance at different moments. Things shift. Let it be and move on.

4. TAKE BREAKS

Find moments in your day when you switch off from work and focus on yourself.

This might be reading a book on the commute. Or a 5-minute break where you stop work and focus on your breathing.

A me-time break will allow you to bounce back to work with more energy.

5. FLEXIBLE WORKING

Many companies are introducing flexible working policies, so see what your company can offer.

Having the opportunity to work around necessary appointments or life commitments not only improves your work/life balance but flexible working has efficiency benefits for businesses too.

6. SCHEDULE PERSONAL DATES

As much as you schedule a work date in your diary – put in important personal dates too. Date nights, birthdays etc. These can often slip when a work commitment pops up. Schedule them as you would any meeting. They are important too.

The perfect work-life balance is individual to you. Start with these 6 tips and find your happy equilibrium.
