Moving in to your self-storage unit

Now that you have reserved your storage unit, it’s time to get ready to move your belongings in. We have outlined the process of moving in below so you know what to expect on your first day.

1. Meet the store manager

You can visit your location any time prior to your move-in to sign your contract, meet your property manager, view your unit, and learn the ins-and-outs of our facility.

Find that you need more space? No problem. Your property manager can help you choose another storage unit.

2. Sign your contract

Before moving in to your storage unit, you will be asked to sign a rental contract with us.

Please bring with you:

  • For personal rental: a valid photo ID (ID card, passport or driving license).
  • For business rental: evidence of the link with the company (e.g. business card) and a valid photo ID.
  • Your bank details to set up Direct Debit.

The rental terms at Shurgard are always month-to-month. That means no long-term commitment, and you're able to move out at any time.

3. Make your first payment

Beside the rental price, there are other costs you need to consider:

  • Lock: you will need a special cylinder lock which you can purchase from us for a nominal price.
Read more about the type of lock we use.
  • Storage insurance: you’ll need to get your insurance cover for your stored items. You can buy an insurance policy from Marsh with prices starting at € 16 a month.

  • Admin fee: We charge a one-off administration fee of € 20 when you sign your first contract with us. Returning customers do not need to pay this fee.

These additional items will be included in your first payment.

4. Accessing your unit

The property manager will provide you with a personal PIN code – you will need this code to enter our premises and open the electronic security gate.

Hours you can visit

You're free to visit your storage unit during Access Hours when you'll find us open seven days a week, 365 days per year.

At most locations, you can access your storage unit between 6.00 and 23.00, but be sure to check your location's specific Office and Access Hours, as these can vary by property.
